On behalf of the South West Region, the Branch organised a march from the park, through the streets of Gloucester, to a rally on the steps of Shire Hall.

Saturday 5th March 2011

A well attended AGM at Walls' Club in Barnwood saw a visit from National Executive Committee Member Noel McLean who answered members' questions at length. The meeting also bid farewell to three long serving Branch Officers, Chairman Sean McGeough, Treasurer Sue Willis and Recruitment Officer Jon Ellis.

The "Keep The Post Public" tour in Gloucester

The National campaign to "Keep The Post Public" visited Gloucester Docks and then Eastgate Street, where members of the public were only too happy to sign the petition and receive leaflets and other goodies.

Tolpuddle Martyrs’ Festival

A group of branch members attended this year's Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival in Tolpuddle, Dorset. The festival featured the usual mix of music, stalls and speakers.

CWU Annual Conference - Bournemouth

This year's CWU Annual Conference was held in Bournemouth. A delegation of nine members represented the Glosamal branch and spoke on a range of topics.

Keep the Post Public - Wolverhampton Rally

A number of Branch Members attended the National march and rally organised by the CWU Midlands Region in Minister of State for Postal Affairs Pat McFadden's Wolverhampton constituency. Speakers included Billy Hayes - General Secretary, Dave Ward - Deputy General Secretary and Geraldine Smith MP.

National Rally and Lobby - Keep the Post Public, Westminster, London

A delegation of Branch members attended the Rally at the Central Methodist Hall in Westminster. A packed hall heard a range of speeches from everyone from Billy Hayes to Tony Benn and included support from other Trade Union leaders. Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda was also due to speak at the meeting, but with so many speakers they ran out of time.

Saturday 5th November 2008 Milton Keynes Mail Centre Closure - March & Rally In a move not dissimilar to plans to close Gloucester Mail Centre, Royal Mail has announced the closure of Milton Keynes, and its intention to move sorting operations to Northampton. Around 500 protesters - including a delegation from the GlosAmal Branch - marched from Milton Keynes Mail Centre to a Rally in Bletchley.

Monday 22nd September 2008 Labour Party Conference – CWU Rally & March A delegation of branch members travelled to Manchester for a Rally and March which culminated outside the Labour Party Conference. Amongst those addressing the Rally were two CWU sponsored MP's, as well as Dave Ward and Billy Hayes. A noisy march brought Manchester city centre to a standstill and was even noisier outside the Conference Hall.

March And Rally In Support Of “The Bristol 3”

Castle Park, Bristol

In the postal dispute which took place last year, three delivery postal workers from Bristol were sacked on charges completely ‘trumped-up’ by the company.

The campaign to reinstate our members will ultimately be decided at an Employment Tribunal scheduled for later in the summer. The Bristol and District Branch has been campaigning locally on behalf of our members and are prepared to ballot for strike action should Royal Mail refuse or ignore a Tribunal decision to reinstate.

The campaign has been publicised in the media and adverts have been placed in the press. A series of membership meetings have taken place throughout the Branch area and there was a mass March and Rally on Monday 4th August 2008, attended by Glosamal members.

On Saturday 19th January 2008 a group of branch members joined a march in Burslem, in support of 12 sacked postal workers, which had led to a strike at the office with the absolute support of all staff. Some of the photographs taken can be seen below. (click on a picture for a larger version)
